I visited Joplin on Tuesday. The devastation from the tornado is indescribable and it tore my heart out. My thoughts and prayers continue to be with all those affected by this terrible disaster. It is heartbreaking to hear the stories of those who lost loved ones but it is also heartwarming to see so many fellow Missourians coming together to help those in need. Many people have asked me how they can help. There are still many physical needs for these familes but most importantly they need monetary donations. Here are some organizations from the local area that are assisting:
The Convoy of Hope will be accepting monetary donations online at http:/www.convoyofhope.org/go/donate.
The Red Cross - Greater Ozarks Regional Chapter are accepting online donations at http://www.redcross-ozarks.org/joplin/.
The Heart of Missouri United Way is coordinating volunteer efforts, as well as accepting online donations at http://www.211missouri.org/.
If you prefer to text your donation, text JOPLIN to 80888 to send a $10 donation to the community.
It will take a long time to clean up the debris, rebuild, and heal the hurt. But the strength and courage and generosity of the human spirit can be seen in all who are participating in the relief efforts both directly and indirectly. Our faith reminds us that the kindness of the human heart is much bigger than this horrible storm.
Thank you for your help,
Sarah
