Dangerous heat wave warning extended through Thursday

...EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT
THURSDAY...

AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT
THURSDAY.

* SHORT TERM TRENDS...OVERNIGHT TEMPERATURES HAVE FALLEN INTO THE
LOWER TO MIDDLE 80S. THERE HAS BEEN AN INCREASE IN HUMIDITY
OVERNIGHT AND HEAT INDEX VALUES WILL REMAIN IN THE MIDDLE 80S
THROUGH SUNRISE PROVIDING LITTLE RELIEF FROM THE HEAT.

* TIMING AND AREAS AFFECTED...AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING IS IN
EFFECT FOR SOUTHEASTERN KANSAS AND MUCH OF SOUTHWESTERN AND
CENTRAL MISSOURI THROUGH THURSDAY EVENING.

* TEMPERATURE...FOR TODAY...AFTERNOON HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE
FROM THE MIDDLE TO UPPER 90S IN CENTRAL MISSOURI TO AROUND 106
DEGREES ACROSS FAR SOUTHWEST MISSOURI. TEMPERATURES WILL COOL
SLIGHTLY ON THURSDAY WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM THE
MIDDLE 90S ACROSS CENTRAL MISSOURI TO AROUND 102 DEGREES ACROSS
FAR SOUTHWEST MISSOURI. HEAT INDEX VALUES OF 100 TO 110 DEGREES
ARE EXPECTED EACH AFTERNOON.

* IMPACTS...THE PROLONGED NATURE OF THIS HEAT WAVE WILL INCREASE
THE RISK FOR HEAT RELATED ILLNESSES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING MEANS THAT A PROLONGED PERIOD OF
DANGEROUSLY HOT TEMPERATURES WILL OCCUR. THE COMBINATION OF HOT
TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY WILL COMBINE TO CREATE A DANGEROUS
SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE LIKELY.

TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE. WHEN
POSSIBLE...RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES TO EARLY MORNING OR
EVENING. KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT
STROKE. WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN
POSSIBLE AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.
