Fourth District Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler issued the following staement after S&P lowered the U. S. credit rating Saturday:
"The United States had been warned that if we failed to reduce our national debt by $4 trillion over the next decade we risked a downgrade. Sadly, the warning went unheeded as the legislation passed and signed into law this week will only cut our debt by about half that total. The decision by Standard & Poor’s to downgrade America's credit rating is further proof that we must control runaway government spending. I renew my call for a Balanced Budget Amendment which would force Washington to live within it means - just as American families must do."
