Police eliminate Ron Erwin as suspect in West Mesa serial murders

New Mexico police have eliminated Joplin businessman Ron Erwin as a suspect in the West Mesa serial killings.

The Joplin Globe will run an interview with Erwin in its Sunday edition. A preview has been posted on the newspaper's website:

The 58-year-old Joplin businessman and photographer talked to the Globe last week, saying he has been cleared of suspicion in the unsolved West Mesa murders, an action police in Albuquerque, N.M., confirm. Erwin fell under a cloud of suspicion in the serial murders case Aug. 3 of last year when investigators from New Mexico showed up at his properties in Joplin armed with search warrants.

Great news! I went to college with Ron in Joplin and knew he could never have done such a thing. Our local rag, the Joplin Globe had him gleefully tried and convicted from day one. Ron is a very pleasant, quiet, savvy businessman and talented artist. He is incapable of committing the horrific crimes of which he had been accused. I hope he gets a ruthless attorney and sues the Joplin Globe back to the stone age!
