(From the City of Joplin)
The Citizens Advisory Recovery Team (CART) will present the report, “Listening to Joplin”, to the Joplin City Council on Monday, November 7 at their regular meeting. The meeting starts at 6 p.m. and is held in the Council Chambers on the fifth floor of Joplin City Hall, 602 South Main. The public is invited to attend.
The report is a summary of the vision citizens have for a rebuilt Joplin. CART has held several meetings asking for comments, suggestions, and ideas about the community, specifically focusing on the disaster area from the May 22 tornado.
“We’ve listened to their description of improved neighborhoods, school, parks, commercial development and economic opportunity,” said Jane Cage, Chairman of CART. “The conceptual drawings included in the report are the result of the community dreaming together with a group of architects and planners. More importantly, the report includes a list of projects that we believe could be catalyst for recovery. We’d love for the public to come to the meeting or watch it on TV or on the City’s website.”
The Joplin City Council meeting is aired live by KGCS-TV, KGCS-TV, a service of the Department of Communication at Missouri Southern State University. KGCS can be viewed on digital channel 22 over-the-air; CableOne channel 7 or Mediacom channel 77. The Council meeting is also streamed live on the City’s website at www.joplinmo.org and can be found under the video and multi-media link.
CART is comprised of community leaders, business leaders, city officials and residents with the purpose to engage residents to determine their recovery vision for Joplin and to represent their views to the community. CART also provides a systematic way to address recovery through a planning process while bringing all segments of the community together to share information and work together.
