Lager to run for lieutenant governor

Sen. Brad Lager, R-Savannah, announced his candidacy for lieutenant governor today. His announcement comes in the wake of Speaker of the House Steve Tilley's decision last week to drop out of the race. Other candidates include former State Auditor Susan Montee on the Democratic ticket, and former State Representative Cynthia Davis on the Constitution Party ticket.


The following news release was issued by Sen. Lager's campaign:

Today Senator Brad Lager announced his candidacy for the office of Lieutenant Governor citing a need for bold leadership focused on job creation, smaller government and restrained spending.

“Missourians are tired of self-interested politicians beholden to special interests getting in the way of good government.  My solemn promise to the people of Missouri if elected Lieutenant Governor is to continue to do everything in my power to create an environment where job creators can create jobs by reducing regulation, cutting spending and getting government off the backs of Missourians and out of the way.  As a small business owner, I understand that every dollar that government taxes and spends would be better spent by small businesses, innovators and entrepreneurs to fuel our economy and create jobs,” said Lager.

Senator Lager is the Chair of the Senate Commerce Committee and was the Senate sponsor last session of legislation Jay Nixon vetoed that would have reduced the number of frivolous lawsuits against employers in employment discrimination suits.  A fiercely independent legislator, Lager has fought for less spending and honest government.

“I look forward to sharing my vision for private sector economic growth with Missourians all across our great state.  Too many of our neighbors are out of work and have fallen on tough times.  It is time for leaders to step up and do the right thing for the people of our great state.  It is time to put the people’s interests above special interests,” continued Lager.

A few of the ideas Senator Lager will make hallmarks of his campaign include:    Enhancing Missouri’s business climate so that we can compete in attracting job creators

·        Fundamentally reexamining Missouri’s tax code to make it flatter and more fair so that Missouri can compete with other states in keeping and attracting jobs

·        Dismantling Obamacare, cap-and-trade and other excessive regulatory initiatives currently being implemented in Missouri by the Nixon Administration
