Businessman Spence's expensive hobby, spends $2 million on his campaign for governor

It is a sad commentary on politics when the only way you can play the game is either by kissing up to special interests for sizable campaign contributions or have enough of your own money (many times helped by those same politicians) to try to buy an office.

In the wild west shootout that Missouri politics has become since the legislature eliminated campaign contribution limits, those are the only choices you have.

That became evident Wednesday when businessman David Spence, a recently announced Republican candidate for governor, contributed $2 million from his own back account to his campaign. Spence, of course, is competing against incumbent Democrat Jay Nixon, who gets his money the old-fashionded way, via huge contributions from special interests.
