Tilley: Sarah Steelman is the best candidate
In a fundraising pitch mailed Wednesday, Speaker of the House Steve Tilley pushed his candidate Sarah Steelman for U. S. Senate. The pitch is printed below.
I don’t know about you, but I am sick of watching Washington D.C. politicians tax and spend us into poverty and debt.
As Speaker of the House, over the last 18 months I have had the opportunity to help advance the conservative Republican agenda in Jefferson City. Whether it was fighting for pro-life legislation, protecting our Second Amendment rights, eliminating the franchise tax, or fighting to create jobs by reducing burdens on our small businesses, I have worked to keep Missouri on the right track.
We have passed a balanced budget every year I have served in the General Assembly; to me that just seems like common sense.
But when I look at what is happening in Washington, D.C. it makes me sick to my stomach. We have a national debt of over fifteen trillion dollars!
It is time we put Washington, D.C. back on the right track.
In November, voters around the country will get to decide the direction this country will take for the foreseeable future. With the Presidential race looming large and majorities in the House and Senate up for grabs this may be the most important election of our generation.
I decided it was time to get involved and send a leader to Washington D.C. who cares about our values. Someone who will put the interests of Missourians above all else. Someone who will shakeup the status-quo in D.C., and someone who above all else will beat Claire McCaskill in November.
That someone is Sarah Steelman!
Sarah has a proven track record of fighting for our conservative values and will make sure that Missouri’s voice is heard loud and clear in Washington D.C.!
I firmly believe that Sarah is the best candidate in the race and is going to be our next United States Senator. She has a proven record fighting against wasteful spending and for balancing a budget; two skills they could use a lot more of in Washington.
As State Treasurer, Sarah was in charge of investing the state’s money, but when she found out that some of those dollars were being invested in countries that financially support terrorists she was disgusted.
As a result, Sarah set up the nation’s first Terror Free Fund which banned the state from investing dollars in nations that support terrorism, such as Iran. These are the types of common sense principles that I believe Sarah will take to Washington.
I have studied the electoral map very carefully and I strongly believe there is no way for Republicans to take back the Majority in the United States Senate without winning in Missouri. That means this race is very likely the difference between having Harry Reid in charge of the Senate or a conservative Republican.
The stakes are very high!
There are seven million people in the State of Missouri, and getting your message out to all of them is a very difficult and expensive task.
We need your help!
To help meet our fundraising budget, we need to raise an additional $10,375 by Friday.
We need your help and that is why I am asking you to consider a contribution of $25, $50, $75, $100, or whatever you can contribute -- an investment in a commonsense, conservative campaign.
I am confident there is no one in this race who will out work Sarah, and I am convinced that come November, Sarah Steelman will be the next Senator from the State of Missouri. Thank you in advance for your help.
