Ron Richard among those derailing Cunningham teacher tenure proposal

Sen. Ron Richard, Joplin, was one of 17 senators who voted to shelve Jane Cunningham's anti-teacher tenure law and form a committee that will study teacher pay.

In an article posted on the Springfield News-Leader website, reporter Josh Nelson examines this compromise, which was created by Education Commitee Chairman David Pearce, R-Warrensburg:

The southwest Missouri senators voting in favor of Pearce’s amendment were: Mike Parson of Bolivar, Bob Dixon of Springfield, Jay Wasson of Nixa and Ron Richard of Joplin.
They joined six other Republicans and seven Democrats in supporting the amendment. Fourteen Republicans and one Democrat opposed it.

Nelson's article indicates Mrs. Cunningham is planning to offer a substitute bill.
