Excessive heat warning remains in effect through Saturday

(From the National Weather Service)

...EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT
SATURDAY...

* SHORT TERM TRENDS...EVENING TEMPERATURES HAVE FALLEN INTO THE
90S. HEAT INDICES BETWEEN 95 AND 100 WILL BE COMMON THROUGH EARLY
EVENING. EVEN HOTTER TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED THURSDAY AND
FRIDAY.

* TIMING AND AREAS AFFECTED...LOCATIONS WEST AND NORTH OF A
POWELL TO GREENFIELD TO IBERIA LINE FROM 1 PM THIS AFTERNOON
THROUGH 7 PM SATURDAY.

* TEMPERATURE...AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO CLIMB TO BETWEEN
100 AND 105 EACH AFTERNOON ACROSS THE WARNING AREA. HEAT INDEX
VALUES WILL RANGE FROM 103 TO 109 AS A RESULT OF SLOWLY
INCREASING HUMIDITY. THE WARMEST READINGS WILL LIKELY OCCUR
THURSDAY AND FRIDAY AFTERNOONS.

* IMPACTS...INCREASINGLY HOT AND HUMID CONDITIONS WILL COMBINE TO
MAKE PROLONGED OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES DANGEROUS. HEAT INDEX VALUES
OF AROUND 105 DEGREES OR HIGHER WILL MAKE THOSE PERFORMING
OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES MORE SUSCEPTIBLE TO HEAT RELATED ILLNESSES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING MEANS THAT A PROLONGED PERIOD OF
DANGEROUSLY HOT TEMPERATURES WILL OCCUR. THE COMBINATION OF HOT
TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY WILL COMBINE TO CREATE A DANGEROUS
SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE LIKELY.

TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE. WHEN
POSSIBLE...RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES TO EARLY MORNING OR
EVENING. KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT
STROKE. WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN
POSSIBLE AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.

TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK...THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND
HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS
IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS. ANYONE OVERCOME BY
HEAT SHOULD BE MOVED TO A COOL AND SHADED LOCATION. HEAT STROKE
IS AN EMERGENCY...CALL 9 1 1.

Please, Please remember to check on the your elder neighbors to make sure they are staying cool and whatever you do don't leave kids and animals in the hot car while you just run in the store. Temperatures can jump to 140 degrees plus in no time and kill a love one or a pet.
