State treasurer candidate: I'm going to tackle public workers' pensions

(From the Cole McNary for State Treasurer campaign)

Wisconsin’s record turnout in last night’s historic recall election sent a strong message across the nation that voters in the heartland appreciate the austerity measures implemented by Governor Walker and the Republican caucus.  Democrats upset over Walker’s efforts to limit the collective bargaining rights of public union employees failed to reverse a policy that has improved the fiscal health of a state strangled by debt and bloated pensions.

The Wisconsin Recall outcome foreshadows a climate voters can expect in states where economic issues take center stage.   With upcoming elections in five statewide offices in Missouri, voters here will be forced to make choices similar to those in Wisconsin.  Conservative Republican Cole McNary who has campaigned on an austerity platform believes that taxpayers are ready to make the tough choices needed to secure our state’s economic future.

“Since taking office as a state representative, my votes consistently reflected an inherent belief that Missourians want a government they can afford,” said McNary.  “My legislative experience cutting waste has prepared me to fight for prudent pension reform and long-term fiscal planning.”

Party leaders across the state applauded Walker’s bold leadership and sent messages late last night suggesting that voters will welcome similar measures in Missouri.  “It is clear that, across America, voters are ready for leaders like Governor Scott Walker who talk about making tough choices—and then keep their word,” said Lloyd Smith, executive director of the Missouri Republican Party.  “Here in Missouri, the Republican Party remains strong, organized and prepared to elect candidates like Cole McNary, who have the courage to stand up for economic integrity and end the failed policies of the Democratic agenda.”

McNary, who entered the race last fall, hopes to bring his conservative discipline to the treasurer’s office.  If elected, McNary plans to reduce discriminatory spending and adopt more fiscally prudent policy practices.

Prior to serving in the Missouri legislature, Cole McNary taught mathematics at St. John Vianney High School and worked in the private sector as a business analyst for some of St. Louis’ largest companies.  McNary graduated from Auburn University with a B.S. in Aviation Management, an MBA from St. Louis University and a Teaching Certificate in Physics from University of Missouri-St. Louis.  Cole and his wife of 23 years Christy live in Chesterfield with their three children.
