In moving forward with recovery efforts following the May 2011 tornado, the Joplin City Council approved a contract with Wallace-Bajjali Development Partners to serve as the master developer to help with rebuilding and improvements throughout Joplin at their meeting on Monday, July 2.
Council members will hear more details on redevelopment projects from David Wallace, President of Wallace-Bajjali, at their work session on Monday, July 9. The meeting will begin at 5:45 p.m. and will be held in the Council Chambers on the fifth floor of City Hall, 602 South Main. The public is invited to attend the meeting to hear the presentation as well.
If unable to attend, KGCS-TV will broadcast the meeting live on Monday, and will offer a rebroadcast at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10. KGCS programming may be seen over the air on digital channel 22, and on regional cable television systems including Cable One, Mediacom and Suddenlink. The station operates as a service of the Department of Communication at Missouri Southern State University.
Joplin City Manager Mark Rohr called the night an historic one following the unanimous vote of the Council to move forward with the hiring of a master developer. “We have a great opportunity to rebuild and improve our city, and I look forward to Monday night’s meeting when many of these projects will be discussed.”
The development firm from Sugarland, Texas will outline $800 million worth of projects ranging from housing construction to community projects and attractions that could draw many into our City.
Work sessions provide an opportunity for the Council to listen and discuss details on City project presented to them. Formal votes are not taken at these meetings. As development work begins, public meetings will be held to gain citizens input before projects are initiated. Following this information gathering phase, contracts and details of projects will then be brought in front of City Council for a formal discussion and vote.
