Lager: Kinder flip-flops on term limits

Whether or not Peter Kinder flip-flopped on term limits, Brad Lager is supporting a failed concept that has resulted in Missouri having an ineffective legislature that mostly consists of second-drawer politicians. Lager's news release is printed below.

Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder claims he is a long-time supporter of term limits, stating that term limits have had “an incredibly positive impact on our state.”[1]  But when it comes to his own office, he says he doesn’t see the “need” to abide by term limits.[2]

This is yet another example of Peter Kinder saying one thing when he thinks the voters of Missouri are listening and doing another when he thinks they are not listening. It is clear Peter Kinder will say and do anything to rescue his ill-fated campaign for an unprecedented third term as Lt. Governor.[3]

“We must change the status quo in Missouri by electing real leaders who stand on principle not campaign talking points.  This is a time for job creators, not career politicians who sway in the wind with their pollsters,” said Lager.  “I support term limits for all of our statewide offices, period, and I’m proud to stand alone as the real conservative for Lt. Governor.”

Lager, who has pledged to serve a maximum of two terms, filed legislation last year to place term limits on all statewide offices, including the lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state, and auditor.[4]  In Missouri, the governor and state treasurer are already limited to eight years in office.
