Viewers of WDTN, Dayton, Ohio, are fuming about last week's firing of evening anchor Michelle Kingsfield, who had been at the station for five years. Ms. Kingsfield was the 6 and 10 p.m. anchor at KODE in the late '90s.
The messages are beginning to pile up on the WDTN Facebook page, including the following:
We need to get a group of people of people and go protest outside the station, the GM and News Director should be fired, guess WDTN doesnt care about ratings, if they did, they would bring back Michelle and hire more reporters, Michelle was great
What happened to Michelle Kingsfield? The viewers of WDTN want answers including myself. It is time that Lisa Barhorst is fired from the station, since she has been GM of WDTN, it has went downhill, WDTN is losing some great news individuals, We all will miss her...
Isn't it obvious? She's over 25 and has a brain.
Michelle Kingsfield was the reason we watched wdtn news. will have to switch to another channel. Maybe she will go to the competition!!!!!!
Ms. Kingsfield said she was let go Thursday and no reason was given.
I'm guessing it was because of the horrible plastic surgery she appears to have had. I always thought she was a beautiful woman until after the recent dance with the knife/needle.
ReplyDeleteIt's just a damned shame that women in broadcasting are put in the often overwhelming pressure position of trying to keep their jobs by keeping the appearance of youth. Men in broadcasting don't face such a standard-
ReplyDeleteIts discrimination and illegal as far as I know.
DeleteHopefully, they won't put the sickening sweet Pam Elliot as the evening anchor.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed watching her on the news, hate all the new women they have.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteThis is Michelle Kingsfield. I appreciate all the nice comments. I even accept comments that aren't complimentary.
BUT... When they become lies, I need to respond.
I have never and will never have any plastic or cosmetic nor Botox. I am somewhat flattered that you all thought I had some sort of work, but it is simply not true!
Fondly,
Michelle
THANKS 4 Keeping the News News Worthy!!!
DeleteAre you still im Dayton? We will miss you on Channel 2
ReplyDeleteWe are no longer watching channel 2 news. It was always our favorite, but since you saw fit to fire Michelle Kingsfield we will no longer view your news - ever!
ReplyDeleteMichelle R.
As if putting up with Don Hammond at fox 45 wasn't bad enough. Now she's fired from WDTN. Mrs Kingsfield was a true pro . Having worked in a few studios myself I'm sure the fact they didn't have a studio to to do the news in for more than a month probably did not make her too happy.
ReplyDeleteWell right on schedule WDTN has their new studio :) Maybe they thought Michelle Kingsfield wasn't HD enough. Note to Michelle... I will never forget the look on your face, on what may have been your last broadcast at 45, when reporting on a heat wave in Chicago that had killed people, on your tele-promptor came "A man in Chicago reportedly sweated through his tee-shirt" Wow! Good times. Good luck to you in the future. Hope to see you back on air soon
ReplyDeleteI can't beleived Michelle was fired, she is great. After her diagnosis of cancer she recovered and I was so glad to see her return to the show. What a big mistake.
ReplyDeleteWas thrilled when
ReplyDeleteMichelle was hired after laving TV news for a while.
maybe Channel 22 will rehire her. They know a good thing when they see it. If they do Goodbye TV2 News, Hello Channel 22
I was very saddened to hear about Michelle Kingsfield. She was a great news anchor and I reaIly enjoyed her. I wish Michelle the best of luck in the future.
ReplyDeleteMichelle is a solid news professional. I have to admire channel 2 for making a seamless transition to HD unlike there competitor over on Main St. However I am upset they let Michelle go. Michelle is a much better newscaster than the new person and Michelle is much easier on the eyes
ReplyDeleteI'm just sick about Michelle being "fired". SHE was the reason I watch along with Brian Davis and Jamie Jarosik. WTDN has lost a viewer here ... but NOT before I say that Pam Elliot is the one that should go. I couldn't even watch when she was on in the morning. The way she would lean over toward Dan Edwards, OMG I thought she was going to land in his lap! So Sorry Michelle!
ReplyDeleteSo Sorry to hear Michelle is no longer on 2 News. She is very professional and a great anchor. She will be missed. I will also watch another station. I hope you stay in this area Michelle. You would be an asset to any station. 2 News will realize what talent they have lost!
ReplyDelete2 news now officially sucks. She made the whole show definently time for Barhorst to go channel 7 here i come to will never watch 2 news again good luck michelle.
ReplyDeleteCan not believe Michelle Kingsfield is no longer a part of the 2 News group. She brought life back to this channel. We are n
ReplyDeleteo longer watching channel 2, went to 7 news. She was a true professional with a personality.
Why is it when a company has someone good they let them go.
I hope another news station is smart enough to pick her up!
What a shame WDTN......
Michelle kings field is a real professional. Does wdtn really think the viewers are so uneducated that the only way they will watch is if a younger woman anchors the news?
ReplyDeleteMichelle was/is great, she was WDTN's best anchor, hope she staya in the area - I too will watch another station if she moves on. BAD move WDTN!
ReplyDeleteAs much as I hate to, you leave me
ReplyDeleteno choice but to switch to channel
7 news.I have no clue why you would
eliminate such a great talent. If there are reasons we will never no.
She will be missed.
we are schocked and saddened by not seeing Michelle anymore, she had such a beautiful personality, and we followed her through her cancer treatments, made us feel like she really cared about others, we will miss her, Eaton Ohio, by the way she is a beautiful person my husband and I both thought so.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I really liked Michell and are very upset, she seemed so kind and careing, we watched Michele when she went through her ordeal with cancer, and by the way she really is a beautiful woman, hope to see her again soon Channel 2 made a big mistake, missimg Michelle in Eaton
ReplyDeleteSorry to see Michelle go. It seems that good people are treated so unfairly. However, with Michelle's experience and "glow", she will have success in her future. Good luck Michelle. You'll be missed. God bless.
ReplyDeleteGood luck Michelle with your future and as a lymphoma surviver I know
ReplyDeleteyou will have a long career.
God bless!
My husband and I were stunned and sickened when we heard that Michelle Kingsfield had been fired. Sounds like age discrimination to us. I hope she sues the PIG that fired her.
ReplyDeleteVery sad to hear Michelle Kingsfield will no longer be on WDTN. Big mistake. I really enjoyed watching her, Marsha Bonhart, Mark Allen, Jamie Jarosik, Brian Davis, and Jack Pohl. I thought WDTN had a great news team. Probably won't be watching much anymore, not too impressed with other stations either.
ReplyDeleteWhat is with all the appearance comments too? Are people really so vain? Ridiculous. I applaud shows and commercials that employ "real" people and not just "beautiful" people. These poor kids have a hard enough time growing up today and feeling good about themselves, adults too!
Probably had nothing to do with age, they had to have some way to pay for all this high def crap no one likes. It should have been the GM's salary instead of Michelle's. You get what you pay for.
ReplyDeleteI am so very sorry to see that Ms Kingsfield is no longer on this newscast. We have watched her for years and very enjoyed her smooth delivery, genuine demeanor and lovely sense of humor. She will be greatly missed from this newscast. I have tried watching the new lady and simply can not stand her delivery. She also comes across as very "phoney". Please bring Michelle back to the airwaves!
ReplyDeleteI will be switching to chanel 7. I really enjoyed Michelle Kingsfield. I guess those doing the firing are not watching their own news Chanel -- if they were they would not have decided to let Ms. Kingsfield go.
ReplyDeleteBad decision
ReplyDeleteMichelle....we were out of town for an extended period when the "powers that be" made the decision to terminate your employment. What an outrageous blunder on WDTN's part.
ReplyDeleteYour professionalism, concise reporting, and smiling face are missed by one and all. I can only imagine how much you are missed by your former co-workers. On a personal note, you encouraged a late friend of mine when she was struggling with cancer, and for that alone I will always smile when I hear your name. Whatever you do, you will do it well. Best wishes.
Who ever decided to let Michelle Kingsfield go......needs to be replaced. Her replacement just does not fit in. So Channel 7 here we come. What a mistake WDTN has done!!!!
ReplyDeleteBad decision firing Michelle-a true professional. One main reason I watched WDTN-no longer-the new anchor I do not care for at all--quit watching morning show when Pam Elliot cameon-at least now I have Marsha Bonhart in her place
ReplyDeleteI always dreamed of *&^%$#%Michelle.. She was the best.. Doesn't it make you wonder how they keep idiots like Bucher, and dismiss people like Kingsfield?
ReplyDeleteThank God Machelle Kingsfield is alive and well. we were gone the week she left and my husband was beside himself. She was our favorite news reporter and we were concerned for her health. Get her back on or loose two more viewers.
ReplyDeleteSo much change at WDTN. In November, GM Barhorst said AM crew will remain the same; Elliot and Edwards now "assignment reporters," Samuels and Bonhart in as anchors. Now, Barhorst leaving for WKEF-WRGT. On Kingsfield's firing, the other employees have been told to keep mum, or else... Seems like a bit of chaos at DTN.
ReplyDeleteI guess I will be switching to another channel to watch my news. I was upset when I found out they fird one female reporter for gaining to much weight and now Michelle Kingsfield !! Shame on you WDTN. By the way, your new noon news revamp stinks !!
ReplyDeleteFirst, i'm Her neighbor, She didn't have plastic surgery. And, it is a shame.
ReplyDeleteI do not like the new reporter on the evening news, but she is better than Pam Elliot. I turn it off when she comes on. Great people in Marsha and Dan.
ReplyDeleteVery sad. Myself, my parents, and entire family are switching channels. Terrible move by this station.
ReplyDeleteWord is, she was fired due to an addiction.
ReplyDeleteMichelle Kingsfield has been gone now for several months and so have my husband and I. What a mistake WDTN made and will never catch up with Channel 7 News. At least before we did watch both stations but not now!! Judy and Jerry Turner
ReplyDeleteMichelle was fired because of addiction issues. That's the "insider" info given.
ReplyDeleteI dislike all the new anchors in Dayton. Rather than good natured newscasters, they seems like smart alecky brats who don't like or respect their audience.
ReplyDeleteAddict, over the hill gold-digging hag. Pretty much sums it up. Thought she was a big fish - but come on its the Dayton market - that's one tiny pond. Narcissitic, bobblehead, who couldn't make it in the big leagues. Why do you think NO other station in Ohio would even talk to her. Diva's like that need to be let go.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately there are really sick people in this world... Michelle Kingsfield in my opinion is an incredible journalist with integrity & phenomenal beauty both esoterically as well as esoterically...
