Akin campaign receives late infusion of Texas cash

Congressman Joe Barton, R-Texas, whose major claim to fame has been his accusation that the Obama Administration was guilty of a "shakedown" of BP after the infamous 2010 oil spill, has put $5,000 of his Texas Freedom Fund PAC's money behind the U. S. Senate candidacy of his colleague Todd Akin, according to a 48-hour report filed with the Federal Election Commission.

Akin reported receiving $17,200 in late contributions this weekend, with $10,000 coming from Texas. The Lone Star State's contributors were nearly all regular contributors to Barton, according to FEC records.

Akin also received a $1,000 contribution from the Conservative Opportunity, Leadership and Enterprise PAC (COLE), associated with Congressman Tom Cole, R-Oklahoma.
