Bill would lower conceal-carry age in Missouri from 21 to 19

Only a few months have passed since the age at which Missourians can receive a conceal/carry permit was lowered from 23 to 21.

If Rep. Chuck Gatschenberger, R-Lake St. Louis, has his way, that age will drop two more years next August 28. HB 92, prefiled today, would lower the conceal/carry age from 21 to 19.

We might as well just drop the nonsense and lower the age to six and save future legislators debate time. On the other hand, would the people who favor this be satisfied with six?

Neuroscience shows that brains aren't fully developed in males at age 18 or 19. This is the reason they make excellent infantry soldiers. Tell a bunch of age 35 guys to assault a hill of bunkers and they'd probably suggest you just wait for the Air Force. But since you think they should carry guns to their frat parties and proms, why not just go ahead and lower the age to 5.

Sometimes brains of our representatives never seem to fully develop either.

I am extremely offended as to the ignorance of some of the older people who feel that there is a problem with this change. I am a 20 year old criminal justice major, along with many other 19-20 year olds who are some of the best shooters in the nation, we attend UCM and shoot for the best professional criminal justice fraternity 11 years running. CCW courses would still be required, and frankly you all should be more concerned about the PROFICCIENCY requirements over the AGE requirements for CCW certifications, because I can promise you that there are many people that have their ccw that handle their firearms more inadequately compared to us 19-20 year olds, when we start talking about 15-16 fine, but 18-20 year olds with obvious shooting proficiency shouldn't be limited because people who don't shoot firearms think that age has anything to do with being mature with a firearm.

Your age has nothing to do with your decision making capabilities, regardless of what science tries to tell us now. Irresponsible young men is a RECENT phenomenon, mostly due to the breakdown of the family and society's ridiculously low expectations.
History shows that young men are perfectly capable of making wise decisions and able to handle large responsibilities at very young ages. Perhaps they are more inclined to take risks, but where in the hell, may I ask, would we be without the young men to take those risks?
I really don't care what the law says about firearms, because I do not listen anyways. The 2nd amendment says "shall not be infringed" which means that absolutely NO law shall be passed regarding firearms whatsoever, to include what types f small arms and ammo I can buy.
P.S. bought my first handgun at 17 (cash talks) Never shot anyone, committed a crime or destroyed anything, 19 now and I still have it.
It is how a boy is raised that makes all the difference.

  6. If 18 year olds are trusted to be in the military and make critical decisions like pull the trigger then there should be nothing stopping them from making the same decision back here. And the amount of maturity difference in the brain from 18 to 23 is inconsequential.

the majority of you are idiots!! your comments are coming from the young people that are in favor for this bill, that have no idea of what real responsibility and respect for the law is. i for one of many respect the laws of the right to bear arms. i have owned guns until i started seeing many people around me get into some kind of trouble and situations that made me give-up my guns. right now you feel empowered to change the laws of this land. yes back in the day there were no laws and look at some of the outlaws that we had...billy the kid and jesse james and all of the kids that joined most of the wars we had because of misguided ideologies. now in the last 15 years we have these kids, from good homes and responsible parents, that are being involved in situations where they either killing or being killed by their classmates or their parents or relatives. its a scary picture, seeing all this stuff in the news and it doesn't seem to be getting worse. some of you think that being trained to use guns while taking criminal justice classes or coming home from being in the armed forces, gives you the right to conceal and carry. i have to disagree and the simple reason why is because you were under supervision all of the time. if you didn't perform properly that responsibility was taken away from you. i ought to know i am a veteran and i have seen what happened when that occurred. it goes the same way if you take action against someone that has disrespected you so bad that you go after that individual or individuals blindly. i feel that the age limit should be raised, not lowered, to 25. this gives time for our youngsters to learn to mature and have learned how the world develops around them. if i were an elected official i would fight like there is no tomorrow to change of my fellow constituents to change the bill to 25 and have it pass into law. i feel that the politicians need to take more time to go over each and every bill, before they regret what they are doing. if i have stepped on a few tails with my comments, i am not going to apologize. its like the old joke people are like a**holes, everyone has one!!

To anyone who would agree with this your ignorant. I am nineteen years old and as a result I am labeled, irresponsible, lazy, and disrespectful, and thats before you even know my name. Why, because a part of my generation feels the need to act that way.I find this extremely offensive. I was raised to work hard, be honest, and respect those who have earned it. Myself and many others like me are still labelled, however, simply because there are those who believe that we were born this way. In some way that might be true, but the fact of the matter is that children from the earliest age learn a large majority from his or her parents. Not form media, not from peers, but from his or her parents, it is natural instinct, always has been and always will be. Honestly.. it's sad that the generation we are suppossed to look to for advice and guidance feels the need to spit in our faces and tell us we aren't good enough. We aren't good enough to defend ourselves in our own nation, but we are good enough to be sent overseas to die for YOUR freedoms.Like the old saying goes "If you won't stand behind them you might as well stand in front of the". But hey i am just an irresponsible, lazy, direspectful, nineteen year old, what do i know?
