Hartzler: The Senate must be held accountable

(From Fourth District Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler)

It has been nearly four years since Senate Democrats have passed a budget - the most basic responsibility of governing – and Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-4) and the House of Representatives have approved a bill requiring Senators to pass a budget or have their pay withheld.
“Hard-working families and small businesses in Missouri’s Fourth District have budgets,” said Hartzler. “It is unacceptable for the United States Senate to fail to pass a budget for almost four years. The American people deserve better.”
“For each of the last two years, the House has passed a responsible budget that promotes economic growth and addresses Washington’s out-of-control spending,” continued Hartzler. “A bill approved by the House today will require both the House and the Senate to confront the government’s spending problem by passing a budget. Member pay will be withheld if a budget is not passed.”
“The Senate must be held accountable for its failure on the budget,” added Hartzler. “The Senate has a responsibility to the American people to stop playing political games and to do its job – by passing a budget. I look forward to seeing the Senate’s plan on spending so we can have the important discussion of controlling spending and getting our economy growing again.”
