Rolla senator who proposed NRA classes for first graders named to Education Committee

More heartening news from the Missouri Senate.

Rep. Dan Brown, R-Rolla, who filed a bill that would require an NRA gun safety course to be taught to all first graders in Missouri public schools, will serve another year on the Senate Education Committee. Senate President Pro Tem Tom Dempsey announced the appointment last week.

In a recent podcast, Brown explained his bill, which was prefiled the day before the murders at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.
Brown said his primary performance in filing SB 75 is to "get the conversation started." Brown, a longtime NRA proponent, says that even if guns are outlawed, they will be around for a long time and there are other ways to "wreak havoc" at an elementary school, including using sticks or knives.
