(From the Southwest Missouri Democrats)
Tuesday the US House of Representatives voted for relief package HR 152 for those affected by Superstorm Sandy. 180 Representatives voted against emergency relief, including Representative Billy Long (MO-7). Mr. Long's home district includes Joplin, Missouri, which was devastated by an EF-5 tornado on May 22nd, 2011.
“Billy Long should be ashamed of himself. If there is one purpose that the federal government can serve it is to provide emergency assistance for natural disasters. One would think that the Congressman whose district impacted the May 22 tornado in Joplin would know the importance of federal dollars in restoring normalcy and aiding in the recovery of a devastated area.” Said Jordan Overstreet, Executive Director of the Southwest Missouri Democrats based in Joplin. “Like many in Washington DC, Billy campaigned about what’s wrong with Washington and then he went there and proved it.”
While our country works to get our debt under control, using a natural disaster to score points with radical ideologues is a new low. Insisting on trade-offs in the budget to cover disaster relief is an unprecedented political stunt that harms individuals who have suffered enough and accomplishes little.
He's a jewel. His being elected attests to the sanity of the SW Missouri voter.
ReplyDeleteHow long do we have to put up with this type?
When are people going to look at the real Billy Long and realize that he does not really represent us but only himself.
