Hartzler offers thoughts on Boston situation

(In her weekly newsletter, Fourth District Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler expresses her thoughts about the current situation in Boston.)

Our hearts were saddened this week as we learned of the terrorist bombings at the Boston Marathon. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of the attack and their families. And, while we are saddened by the violence, we are thankful for the brave first responders and citizens who acted immediately to assist people in need. There is no doubt that their fast and unselfish actions helped save lives. We thank God for having these individuals close by and able to quickly offer aid to fellow citizens.
It is uplifting, as well, to see so many Americans coming together to pray for those whose lives were changed on this sad day. It demonstrates to our enemies that while we might have differences we will come together to protect our fellow Americans and to work to stop these senseless acts of violence. As of this writing, one suspect is dead and a second is being sought by authorities who have vowed they will not rest until he is brought to justice. We thank law enforcement for the work they are doing to protect Americans in the Boston area and throughout our country from cowardly acts of terrorism.
Our thoughts and prayers are also with the people of West, Texas, site of the deadly fertilizer explosion. Both incidents remind us of the frailty of life and how each day is a gift. May they remind us anew to love those around us and appreciate each new day.
