Texas family's lawsuit against Kanakuk settled

A settlement was reached late last month in the civil suit filed by a Texas couple, whose child was molested by former Kanakuk Kamp director Pete Newman.

Documents filed April 24 and April 29 in U. S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, do not reveal details of the settlement, but note that it was reached following one day of an "alternative dispute resolution" held in Dallas.

Those attending the meeting, according to the document, were CEO Joe White, Don Frank, Virginia Frys, Larry Graaovot, and Dan Daws of Kanakuk Ministries, and Marilyn Gannon of Ace North America Insurance, all representing the defendants, and the couple and Pete Newman's teenage victim, along with attorneys for both sides.

The final resolution of the case must be filed by May 29, again not likely to contain any details, or the case will be dismissed, according to court documents.

The details of the lawsuit against Joe White, Kanakuk, and Pete Newman, as well as other recent scandals involving Kanakuk, can be found at this link. Newman is serving two life sentences after pleading guilty to sex crimes involving numerous teenage boys attending the Kanakuk Kamps in Branson.

  1. Let's hope that every person who saw, suspects or may have been harmed by Pete Newman or anyone at Kanakuk Kamp, will find the courage and strength to speak up and contact police, no matter how long ago the abuse happened. Keep in mind that child predators rarely have only one or two victims, some have many. So your silence only hurts, and by speaking up there is a chance for healing, exposing the truth, and therefore protecting others.

"SNAP (The Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests) is the world's oldest and largest support group for clergy abuse victims. SNAP was founded in 1988 and has more than 12,000 members. Despite the word priest in our title, we have members who were molested by religious figures of all denominations, including nuns, rabbis, bishops, teachers, Protestant ministers and increasingly, victims who were assaulted in a wide range of institutional settings like orphanages, summer camps, athletic programs, Boy Scouts, etc.

The public will never know the whole truth and nothing but the truth ONLY GOD knows. However if all of the victims that were abused in these arrest were "allowed" to see justice, this is the largest sexual abuse case in the history of the United States. It all comes down to $! It was not cost effective to pursue more charges 1,000's of "children", who were molested. The only peace that one can take rest in is that GOD KNOWS! I am confident that His justice will hear the cries of these children and serve up His justice. Individuals, the ones that were arrested were only a portion of the evil that was committed. Just like O.J. Simpson, Joe White is only being hit in the wallet or in reality his insurance company is paying the price. Joe White knew and that is an abomination to God! Joe White will not get away with what he allowed to happen. He sold out Jesus Christ for $ in his pocket at the expense of God's children.
