Joplin Police make nine DWI arrests during traffic checkpoint

The Joplin Police Department has released the results of the checkpoint it held Saturday night and during the early morning hours Sunday:

The goals of the checkpoint were to:
1. Detect and apprehend impaired drivers
2. Raise Awareness to the dangers of driving while intoxicated or impaired.
3. Encourage people to plan events and alternate transportation accordingly.
The checkpoint hours of operations were from 2150-0200 hours Sunday morning.
As a result of those efforts:
981 cars were contacted
9 DWI's
1 Drug arrest
16 total arrests (including DWI's and drug)
13 people transported to jail
Conducted 20 SFST's
Issued 46 tickets
Gave 37 warnings
This checkpoint was funded through a grant provided by the Missouri Department of Transportation Highway Safety Division.
