Joplin R-8 Superintendent C. J. Huff is one of 14 people selected to receive this year's Missourian Awards.
Other recipients include Neosho banker Rudy Farber and Glenna Wallace, chief of the Eastern Shawnee tribe and a former English instructor at Crowder College.
The awards will be presented during a ceremony 7 p.m. Saturday, August 10, at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City.
A reception will be held at 6 p.m.
The 2013 recipients are:

• Charles Edward, former CEO of CoxHealth, who is being recognized posthumously;

• former Missouri Rep. Tim Harlan, D-Columbia;
• Dwayne Holden, president and CEO of Custom Metalcraft Inc.;

• Norm Ridder, superintendent of Springfield Public Schools;
• Dr. Bharat Shah, section chairman and plastic surgeon with Mercy Clinic Plastic Surgery and medical director of Mercy Medical Spa;

• Erick Taylor, president and CEO of Pyramid Foods;
• Glenna Wallace, chief of the Eastern Shawnee; and
• Mike Williamson, past president and CEO of Empire Bank.

The following description is given of the Missourian Award from its website:
The Missourian Award is a prestigious award that acknowledges the most accomplished citizens of Missouri.
To be selected, one must be born in the state of Missouri, or under exceptional circumstances, a person may qualify by having spent at least 15 years of their life in the state. Nominees must have made an outstanding contribution to the state or nation in one of the following fields: civics, business, arts or politics.
However, no person from the political field will be considered for this award until they have been out of an elected or appointed position for at least two years.
Proceeds from the Missourian Award Program benefit the American Heart Association.
