Torrential rainfall possible for Joplin area Tuesday

THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES FOR

* PORTIONS OF SOUTHEAST KANSAS AND MISSOURI...INCLUDING THE
  FOLLOWING AREAS...IN SOUTHEAST KANSAS...BOURBON...CHEROKEE
  AND CRAWFORD. IN MISSOURI...BARRY...BARTON...CHRISTIAN...
  DOUGLAS...HOWELL...JASPER...LAWRENCE...MCDONALD...NEWTON...
  OREGON...OZARK...STONE AND TANEY.

* THROUGH TUESDAY EVENING

* A COLD FRONT WILL SAG SOUTH THROUGH THE AREA TONIGHT AND EARLY
  TUESDAY. THE FOCUS FOR WIDESPREAD RAINFALL WILL GRADUALLY
  SHIFT TO THE SOUTH OF THE REGION BY LATE TUESDAY. THE BEST
  CHANCES FOR RAIN INTO TUESDAY WILL BE ACROSS EXTREME
  SOUTHEASTERN KANSAS AND FAR SOUTHERN MISSOURI. AN ADDITIONAL
  INCH OF RAINFALL WILL BE POSSIBLE...WITH LOCALLY HIGHER
  AMOUNTS POSSIBLE.

* TORRENTIAL RAINFALL RATES WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH ANY
  THUNDERSTORMS WHICH WILL QUICKLY LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING OF
  STREAMS...LOW LYING OR POOR DRAINAGE AREAS...AND LOW WATER
  CROSSINGS.

BECAUSE OF HIGH WATER TABLES AND SATURATED SOILS...LOCATIONS THAT
NORMALLY DO NOT FLOOD WILL BE AT RISK FOR FLOODING. AREAS THAT
HAVE RECEIVED EXCESSIVE RAINFALL AND FLOODING THE PAST FEW DAYS
ARE AT PARTICULAR RISK FOR FLASH FLOODING.

THOSE CAMPING OR FLOATING ON AREA RIVERS SHOULD BE ALERT FOR
RISING WATER LEVELS.

THOSE TRAVELING SHOULD BE ALERT FOR FLOODED ROADS AND LOW WATER
CROSSINGS.

ADDITIONAL RISES AND FLOODING MAY DEVELOP ON MAIN STEM RIVERS
INCLUDING THE ELK RIVER.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD
TO FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION
SHOULD FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS BE ISSUED.
