Besendorfer, Huff: Why's everybody always picking on us?

The Joplin R-8 School District, if you recall, was considerably below nearly every other area school district in the recent MSIP scores. Part one of this sweeps month package from KOAM education reporter Lisa Olliges features Superintendent C. J. Huff and Assistant Superintendent Angie Besendorfer continuing the same line of reasoning they used at a recent board of education meeting- you can't judge Joplin using the same methods you use for every other school district.

In  2013 Joplin's academic achievement score was 39 of 56 possible points. Surrounding districts scored lower 50's except Carthage at 45.

Joplin assistant superintendent Angie Besendorfer says, "I  disagree with the fact that that is a valid way to look at it,  cause its not.  Its not um, its not considering  lots of different components."

The superintendent, CJ Huff says of  the new state system,  "A frustration seems to be the target continually seems to move around  in terms of what they expect us to hit."

Correct me if I am wrong, but don't all of the other school districts get judged on exactly the same criteria?

Besendorfer's whole job is supposed to be supervising curriculum and instruction. She has failed at that miserably and is hoping people are dumb enough to buy her story. There must be seven who are dumb enough since she's still here but the rest of us know incompetence and deceitfulness when we see it.

I'm so relieved to hear Angie say that. I'm never worrying about test scores again. They can measure my effectiveness in other ways, too.

Weren't the TLCs specifically hired to increase test scores and learning? Guess we don't need them now based on Angie's comments! That'll save a few bucks.

Thanks to KOAM for this story. I do not expect KODE or KSN will report such an honest account of the poor performance of Joplin School management. If the problems are not publicly identified, there is not much hope the problems will be corrected.
    2015 accreditation?? doubtful

KOAM probably knows there is an epic meltdown on the horizon. Just covering the first drips as Huff and Besendorfer's minions attempt to hold back the rising storm tide.

Of course, anyone who knew Ms. Besendorfer (nee Phipps) in high school knows that she didn't think that she should be judged on the same criteria as the rest of us peon classmates.

Doesn't surprise me that she feels the same way about her current role.

They are so awful and crooked. When the truth comes out about what these two and their helpers have done to this district, the town will have to come to terms that their district was destroyed not by a tornado but by human greed and ambition. Shameful.

What school board would put up with this kind of miserable failure year after year? Not to mention the fiscal irresponsibility. There is no stewardship of the public interest here. Mr. Flowers, you and your cohorts are hurting your community, and you should all be ashamed to go out your doors. Why are they still on the job? Because you won't do yours! That makes you and the board all equally guilty in everything they've done.
