Lamar Republican compares Obamacare to slavery

In his latest newsletter, Rep. Mike Kelley, R-Lamar, insists that Obamacare can be stopped, comparing it to slavery, Prohibition, and women not being allowed to vote.

I reject the premise that nothing should be done to stop or delay the "train-wreck" that is the Affordable Care Act, because it's the "law of the land".
Slavery was once the law of the land.  Prohibition was once the law of the land.  Women being barred from voting was once the law of the land and the list could go on and on!
My point is, we've had many changes to "the law of the land" in this country, and it's a very weak argument by people who can't win on logic.
Fact is fact; the federal government is shutdown today and the last few days because it's out of money!  We continue to allow and some people even expect the government to keep borrowing day after day and year after year to support programs we simply can't afford as the "most prosperous nation on earth"!  The federal government needs to live and operate under the same rules as most people that is: pay your bills and don't live beyond your means.  As a member of the Missouri House I have had to on occasion vote on things that were not popular, things that would cut services and programs, but I did so and so did a huge bi-partisan majority of the members of the Missouri House and Senate, why, to balance the budget for the state of Missouri! I call on the members of the US House and Senate to do the same! We cannot continue to run this country on loans placed on the backs of future generations!
This shutdown isn’t just about “Obamacare” it’s about the wasteful government spending that has gone on way too long!  The members of the US House of Representatives need to stick to their beliefs and stop not only “Obamacare” but also the continuing increase in the Federal Deficit, Congress needs to pass a BALANCED BUDGET and as revenues grow stop growing government and start paying off the National Debt!
