Joplin High School band teacher placed on administrative leave

Joplin R-8 school officials confirmed tonight that they have placed a district teacher on paid administrative leave after matters were brought to the attention of school officials.

Sources at Joplin High School told the Turner Report the teacher is veteran Joplin High School band teacher Rick Castor.

Details on the reason for the leave have not been confirmed.

This very interesting. I am very curious to know what, why, when and if who with!

Yes, this will be what gets the attention of the parents and patrons, not the other destructive nonsense that goes on every day and affects every person in the district. Good gossip is much more interesting to the shallow mind.

You are disgusting for naming names. Seriously how do you sleep at night? And I know him and he didn't do anything wrong. Unlike Randy Turner he won't lose his job.

It is public knowledge now and journalists give the facts. That Turner did not speculate why is a reflection of professionalism. Are you going to also write with the same moral outrage toward radio and tv stations and the paper? Or is this more personal--because names can be embarrassing sometimes when the truth is told. Can't they.

If he did nothing wrong, then why is the Administration targeting him?

He sleeps at night knowing he has done a thorough job at reporting information he has credibly received. He never reported that the teacher did anything wrong. Just that he was put on administrative leave. Might want to re-read the article before you go off on Mr Turner.

It takes little to be targeted by this administration. Destroying people is a favorite hobby for some of them. Let the truth be told but don't stoop to gossip and speculation.

The sad thing is that he, the band director, was probably taken down by one of his own colleagues in the band department.

So much for not stooping to gossip before the facts are out.

Did the band teacher also write a book?

I'm sure if he wrote a book he would have plenty of material to work with, just like the rest of R8.

If it is Castor then it's has something to do with how he treats students. I went to the admin may times but nothing was ever done.

I know very little about what is going on in Administration. When my kids were in grade school and Jr. High, things seem to run smoothly. When they got to High School, things really went to hell fast!! When you see a few teachers leave every year, that's expected but when they are running for the doors,as they have lately, one has to seriously question what is going on. Years of experience in teaching have walked out those doors just in the last two years! Most of the future teachers coming out at MSSU, are not even considering teaching at Joplin. There need to be a new direction for Joplin R8.Some of the same board members are in place now that were there when my kids were in Kindergarten (11 years ago) so the same ideas we had then are still being used today, It isn't working. Time for us, as tax payers, to do something different.

Turner is wanting to shift the focus off of his inappropriate behavior for a middle school teacher by calling this teacher out by name. We know NOTHING but by him putting his name out there he has effectively ruined this man's reputation. Turner knows what that is like. To do it to someone else shows what kind of moral compass turner has and how little regard Turner has for ANYONE who happens to work for Joplin R-8. Turner put his own name out when he was placed on leave. It makes me sick.

If anyone saw the Joplin High School program Noodles and Nonsense you world understand why Mr Castor is leaving. The program was absolutely terrible, students behaved awful, and they had no direction. As a former teacher myself, I was appalled that a teacher would allow a program like that especially when trying to raise money.

It is so easy to kick someone when they are down. Especially anonymously. No wonder their is such a problem with bullies. You people that are dogging out a teacher before having any of the facts teach your kids how to bully. I am talking to you 1:49, 8:17 and especially you Turner. You shouldn't have named his name. (And btw your "sources" are previous female students of yours.)

  18. Rumors are rampant and flying, and it doesn't do any good to anyone to speculate. Lives are ruined with little more than backbiting and gossip in this town. At least wait until there are facts to castigate the man with whatever else needs to be heaped on the pile.. People are quite bold when they are hiding behind the identity of 'anonymous'.

I'd already heard he was on leave. Honestly, I don't really like the band director but I figured he's one more that the MODOT thugs were after. Mr. Turner reports. And he isn't really working much differently than other reporters or news media. The administration however destroys anyone that isn't in their grand plan or who they deem to be a threat.

I think everyone in the Joplin School District needs Voice Stress Testing from the top down. It appears that everyone has something to hide. I believe that to truly protect our children all steps need to be taken to assure that those who spend just as much time with our kids need to be trustworthy.

I have been hearing rumors about this. Being one of his students, I find this really shocking. It really hurts to see people on here criticizing everybody. And it's really rude to say that the Noodles and Nonsense program was awful. We work hard at what we do, and it was just a little fun to raise money.

Is there any more news? I am concerned for Mr. Castor. There hasn't been any mention in the Globe.

  24. My South Middle Schoolers came home this afternoon and said they have been told that Mr. Castor has resigned and that their band director, Mr. Mudd will be filling in for a short time.

Mr. Turner is reporting actual incidents that occur daily in this district. Why the Globe doesn't investigate and write about unethical
happenings in our community is beyond understanding. When are patrons going
to stand up and say enough of these self serving political actions. Why can't student achievement be a focus it is obvious that needs to occur.
