McCaskill: It is time to end workplace discrimination based on sexuality

(From Sen. Claire McCaskill)

No matter where you work in this great country, it is against the law for your employer to fire you or hire someone else because of your gender -- so why is it still legal to fire you because of your partner's gender?
Americans agree that discrimination is wrong, but it still happens in far too many workplaces. There's a loophole in the law right now that allows employers throughout America to discriminate against employees in the LGBT community. That's not what we believe in.
We need our laws to reflect our values.
I'm joining with several of my colleagues to support the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and end workplace discrimination based on sexuality -- and there's a crucial vote in the Senate tomorrow!
If this problem has never affected you, then imagine getting fired because your boss thinks you should date someone else. Or imagine your husband or wife getting fired because their boss thinks they shouldn't see you.
Supporting equality for gay and lesbian couples is simply the right thing to do for our country, a country founded on the principles of liberty and equality.
With the Employment Non-Discrimination Act coming up for an important vote in the Senate tomorrow, my colleagues and I are rushing to build as much support as we can right now for ending this discrimination.
Thank you for your support,
