Murder victim was in first year as MSSU offensive line coach

The following information about Derek Moore, the Missouri Southern State University offensive line coach, who was shot to death last night at Northstar 14 in Joplin, comes from the MSSU website:

Derek Moore is in his first year on the Missouri Southern football staff as the offensive line coach. Moore comes to Southern after three seasons at Division I Western Illinois University in Macomb, Ill.

During his first year at WIU, Moore assisted with an offensive line unit that produced First Team, All-Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) selection Mike Lamphear. The line helped pave the way for a record-setting group in passing yards and total yards, while ranking among the top 25 nationally in five different statistic categories. Last year, eight different linemen started and nine lettered.

Moore spent the 2009 season as an assistant defensive line coach at MVFC member Northern Iowa, working with the defensive tackles. He spent three years as co-offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator at Upper Iowa University, working directly with the offensive line.

He started his coaching career in 1999 at Ellsworth Community College and spent two years as the offensive and defensive line coach, in addition to serving as the head strength and conditioning coach.
After a year at Iowa Central CC (2001) and Ames (IA) High School (2002), Moore took over as the assistant offensive line coach at St. Cloud State University. He spent two years working as the university's assistant strength and conditioning coach.

In 2005, Moore went to Lincoln University to take over as special teams coordinator and offensive line coach, while adding head strength and conditioning coach duties. He coached at Upper Iowa from 2006-2009.

Moore graduated with a bachelors degree from Buena Vista University in 1999 and earned a masters degree from St. Cloud State in 2005.

Moore is a proud father of son Elijah (6).

I would be LIVID if you posted my child's name. He is 6 or 7 years old. Who do you think you are giving out his name? The globe has his age as 7. What's next -a picture of him? Poor judgment displayed again by you.

The names of next of kin are given in obituaries. His name will be released there anyway. Save your moral outrage for a real cause other than a cheap shot.

This is a copy of Coach Moore's bio from the MSSSU athletic web-site. His son's name is listed there it is already on the web and since Coach was proud to place his son's name there, Randy has done nothing immoral or wrong. Don't jump to anger so quickly!

1:57 probably has a reason to fear the publication of family members' names after a crime...sad they're using this story to further their pathetic agenda.

Can we just stay on the story at hand? It's so incredibly sad.
