The Kansas City Star's latest editorial on gun laws comes at an opportune time.
Today is the one-year anniversary of the murders at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., and over the past several days, Missouri legislators are racing to see which one can pre-file the most outrageous law protecting anybody's use of guns any time, any place.
And, of course, these proposed laws also make it a point of saying Missouri will ignore any federal gun laws, since we know more about the Constitution than anyone else.
The Star editorial includes the following passage:
Since the massacre, the deplorable behaviors of Congress, state legislators and the National Rifle Association have thwarted attempts at needed gun safety legislation.
With blatantly misleading arguments, these forces have said that sensible laws would imperil the Second Amendment and Americans’ rights to own weapons — a ludicrous contention in a nation awash in 300 million firearms.
Incredibly, politicians and gun-rights groups have made it even easier to carry weapons into schools, bars and other public places.
