Winter storm warning remains in effect for Joplin until 6 a.m. Sunday

...WINTRY PRECIPITATION CONTINUES OVER THE REGION...

.PERIODS OF FREEZING RAIN WILL CONTINUE TODAY. TEMPERATURES
SHOULD GRADUALLY WARM ABOVE FREEZING FROM SOUTH TO NORTH DURING
THE LATE MORNING AND AFTERNOON...CAUSING FREEZING RAIN TO CHANGE
OVER TO JUST RAIN FOR AREAS SOUTH AND EAST OF A JOPLIN TO OSAGE
BEACH LINE THIS AFTERNOON. OVER SOUTHEAST KANSAS INTO WEST
CENTRAL MISSOURI...TEMPERATURES WILL LIKELY REMAIN BELOW FREEZING
WITH THE FREEZING RAIN CONTINUING.

THE NEXT ROUND OF PRECIPITATION WILL OCCUR THIS EVENING INTO
SUNDAY MORNING AS AN UPPER LEVEL LOW TRACKS ACROSS THE REGION
WITH RAIN CHANGING OVER TO SNOW. WHILE THE HEAVIEST SNOW WILL BE
NORTH OF OUR AREA...MINOR ACCUMULATIONS OF UP TO AN INCH OR TWO
WILL BE POSSIBLE OVER SOUTHEAST KANSAS INTO WEST CENTRAL AND
CENTRAL MISSOURI.

...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM CST SUNDAY...

A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR FREEZING RAIN AND SNOW
REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM CST SUNDAY.

* SHORT TERM TRENDS...THE FREEZING LINE CURRENTLY EXTENDS FROM
  VICHY TO FORT LEONARD WOOD TO NEOSHO. THE FREEZING LINE WILL
  CONTINUE TO SLOWLY LIFT TO THE NORTHWEST THIS MORNING WITH AREAS
  ALONG AND JUST NORTHWEST OF THE INTERSTATE 44 CORRIDOR AT OR
  SLIGHTLY ABOVE FREEZING BY EARLY AFTERNOON. AREAS OF LIGHT RAIN
  WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE NORTHEAST THIS MORNING. WHERE TEMPERATURES
  ARE BELOW FREEZING AN ADDITIONAL ONE TENTH TO 0.15 OF AN INCH
  OF FREEZING RAIN ACCUMULATION IS POSSIBLE.

* TIMING AND AREAS AFFECTED...PERIODS OF FREEZING RAIN TODAY.
  PERIODS OF LIGHT SNOW SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY.

* SNOW AND SLEET ACCUMULATIONS...A DUSTING OF LESS THAN ONE INCH
  OF SNOW CAN BE EXPECTED ALONG THE I-44 CORRIDOR. ONE TO THREE
  INCHES CAN BE EXPECTED FURTHER NORTH ACROSS CENTRAL MISSOURI AND
  SOUTHEASTERN KANSAS.

* ICE ACCUMULATIONS...STORM TOTAL ACCUMULATIONS OF ONE QUARTER TO
  THREE TENTHS OF AN INCH OF FREEZING RAIN CAN BE EXPECTED ACROSS
  THE WARNING AREA. LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS UP TO A HALF INCH CAN
  BE EXPECTED NORTH OF I-44.

* IMPACTS...ICE WILL CONTINUE TO CAUSE TRAVEL PROBLEMS TODAY...
  ESPECIALLY ON BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES. LIGHT SNOW ON TOP OF ICE
  WILL LIKELY WORSEN TRAVEL CONDITIONS TONIGHT INTO EARLY SUNDAY
  MORNING. ICE BUILD UP ON TREES AND POWER LINES WILL LEAD TO
  SPORADIC POWER OUTAGES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW AND ICE ARE
EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR
IMPOSSIBLE. CONSIDER TAKING A WINTER STORM KIT ALONG WITH YOU.
THIS KIT SHOULD INCLUDE SUCH ITEMS AS TIRE CHAINS...BOOSTER
CABLES...A FLASHLIGHT...SHOVEL...BLANKETS...EXTRA CLOTHING AND
ANYTHING ELSE THAT WOULD HELP YOU SURVIVE IN CASE YOU BECOME
STRANDED.
