(From the National Weather Service)

WIND CHILL ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 AM CST FRIDAY...
THE WIND CHILL ADVISORY IS NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 AM CST FRIDAY.
* SHORT TERM TRENDS...TEMPERATURES EARLY THIS MORNING WILL REMAIN
IN THE SINGLE DIGITS WITH WIND CHILLS BETWEEN 10 AND 20 BELOW
ZERO.
* TIMING AND AREAS AFFECTED...ALL OF EXTREME SOUTHEASTERN KANSAS
AS WELL AS THE MISSOURI OZARKS...ALONG AND NORTH OF A GALENA TO
AVA TO SALEM LINE THROUGH EARLY FRIDAY MORNING.
* WIND CHILL VALUES...LATE NIGHT AND EARLY MORNING WIND CHILL
VALUES BETWEEN 10 AND 20 BELOW ZERO ARE EXPECTED. WIND CHILLS
WILL REMAIN BELOW ZERO FOR MUCH OF TODAY.
* IMPACTS...WIND CHILLS OF THIS MAGNITUDE CAN RESULT IN FROST BITE
ON EXPOSED SKIN IN AS LITTLE AS 30 MINUTES. THOSE OUTDOORS
WITHOUT SUFFICIENT PROTECTION WILL RUN A HIGH RISK FOR FROST
BITE OR HYPOTHERMIA.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A WIND CHILL ADVISORY MEANS THAT VERY COLD AIR AND STRONG WINDS
WILL COMBINE TO GENERATE LOW WIND CHILLS. THIS WILL RESULT IN
FROST BITE AND LEAD TO HYPOTHERMIA IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN.
IF YOU MUST VENTURE OUTDOORS...MAKE SURE YOU WEAR A HAT AND
GLOVES.
PETS ARE ALSO SUSCEPTIBLE TO THE EXTREME COLD. KEEP PETS INDOORS
AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. IF THIS IS NOT POSSIBLE...MAKE SURE OUTDOOR
PETS HAVE WARM DRY SHELTER. PROVIDE SUFFICIENT FOOD AND FRESH
UNFROZEN WATER.
