Joplin Emergency Management: Freezing rain threat has moved south of us

(From Joplin Emergency Management)

To all Area Weather Interests:
There was a conference call at 1:00 today with the NWS. Here's the bottom line as of this moment for the Jasper County area:
1. We should see some light icing after midnight tonight with maybe a glaze to 1/10th of an inch.
2. Then it will switch to sleet and then to snow. Timing...we should see most of what we are going to receive somewhere between 4 AM and 7 AM Sunday. Accumulations of 2-3 inches of sleet and snow, total.
3. After that we might see a few flurries. The temps will drop overnight Sunday into Monday to close to zero.
4. Any threat of freezing rain has moved well south of us, closer to the Arkansas line. This should mitigate local concerns about large scale power outages.
Stay tuned to your local weather information sources as this could still change somewhat. I'll send out updates on any significant changes.
