Huff on audit: People looking to find dirt are going to be sorely disappointed

At the same time, Joplin R-8 Superintendent C. J. Huff was telling KZRG that those who expect state auditors to find dirt on him "are going to be sorely disappointed," he revealed some of the dirt they might find.

During the first 18 months or so after the tornado, Huff said, it was "all about taking care of people. Because of that, he added, there were times when the district "did not let policy and procedure stand in the way." As an example, he mentioned that the district did not always take three bids as policy dictates.

Other information revealed about the audit by Huff:

-State auditors will arrive on Monday for a preliminary conversation with Huff and district officials

-The audit could take as long as five to six months. Auditors will be in Joplin four days a week, working from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

-David Humphreys, who asked for the petition audit, which became unnecessary when the state agreed to step in, "is a good man," according to Huff. "It was a good way to get this thing kickstarted."

-Those who are wanting the audit are "tired and cranky."

-Huff said he would be shocked to find anything anyone had "done purposefully with any money that was received" following the tornado.

I guess that makes Huff mighty tired and cranky then, because he said he wanted the audit and was anxious for it to begin!!!

I wonder why anyone would be tired and cranky in R8?
    Fool.

I guess he thinks all those hours the put in at the AD Bldg Sunday night must have paid off. Nothing to worry about--what with Barr and Smith going to every school and shaking them down for available cash. Got it all covered? Maybe. Maybe not.

Then there was that comment about the Board giving him the key to the treasury, so to speak, after the tornado. Didn't have to ask them for permission to spend the money. Left the fox in charge of the hen house, is what they did.

I suppose this audit will find the money that was specifically designated for the music department that never showed up but the checks were cashed by the school? Guess that would fall in the first few months following the tornado category!

CJ could be correct on this. He may have hidden the (dirt) misappropriations so well that it truly would be a shock if "found" by the auditors.
