During an interview just aired on KOAM, Joplin R-8 Board of Education President Annie Sharp said the following:
-The construction project is four percent over budget.
-To repay the long-term financing, the district will have to spend $600,000 annually from the capital outlay fund- the fund which takes care of problems that occur at all of the district's buildings.
-"I would rather err on the side of giving our community more than they need
CFO Paul Barr said another revenue stream will be needed. So far, the only suggestion anyone has made has been selling naming rights.

Why would someone want to have their name on the overpriced stuff?
ReplyDeletePay toilets at the schools could raise a lot of money. Pay to enter, pay per sheet of toilet paper if that is necessary. Pay extra to use the official "Mission Accomplished" toilet paper with C.J's smiling face on every sheet.
ReplyDeleteShort on cash? You'll have to settle for the generic lowbid contract wipe instead.
Why do I fear something will have the name "Bright Futures" on it?
ReplyDeleteThe bond is gone. The insurance. The donations. And the reserves? Must be gone. Staff morale at an all-time low, as well as academic achievement. This board has proved a total failure, and they and their superintendent need to face the consequences for their irresponsible, devastating lack of management and oversight. Most of us could quite happily have lived with a more normal school. This dream school is not ours, but Angie Besendorfer's, and consequently, CJ Huff's and then the Board's. It is not the public's dream school, despite the little group of parents you gathered together to repeat the mantra. But it will be up to the public to pay for this for decades and decades. Shame on you, Anne Sharp, and shame on the rest of the Board. You could have stopped this at any time had you not been too busy drinking Kool-Aid.
ReplyDeleteOh, I think you've been quite successful in giving the community more than it needs. More debt, more distrust, more disrespect, more shame.
ReplyDeleteThanks. We're good now and you can stop at any time.
I find it interesting that Mrs. Banwart, who brought the bond to us, wasn't even present to vote on the loan the other night. I guess her mission accomplished moment already happened, and now the rest of us get to live with the consequences.
ReplyDeleteThere is no sense of responsibility on this Board. Just greed and egotism.
This is just the tip of of the iceberg. The huge bulk of the ugly mess is still hidden under the surface, and it will sink the boat.
