New Media Investment Group — parent company of GateHouse Media LLC — acquired the Miami (Okla.) News-Record, the Cherokee County (Kan.) News-Advocate, the Grove (Okla.) Sun and the Delaware County (Okla.) Journal and the Stephenville (Texas) Empire-Tribune as well as, nine weeklies and four shoppers from American Consolidated Media Southwest Group. ACM newspapers are based in small-market communities in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas.
Meantime, New Media purchased The Petersburg (Va.) Progress-Index, as well as weekly publication The Colonial Voice also located in Virginia.
The acquisitions were valued at $15.3 million.
“We are looking forward to being a part of GateHouse Media and taking advantage of the resources and expertise they have available for our newsrooms, our advertising projects and our employees,” said Cheryl Franklin, publisher of the Miami News-Record.
GateHouse Media also owns the Carthage Press, Neosho Daily News, Pittsburg Morning Sun, the Big Nickel, Greenfield Vedette, and Aurora Advertiser in this area.
Not a fan of GateHouse Media. They buy up papers then they all become pretty worthless newspapers in my opinion. More and more people rely on the internet for news because of the poor quality of newspapers. They're not anything like they use to be in my opinion.
