Only three days have passed since Dawn Sticklen, a member of the Joplin R-8 Board of Education since 2012, submitted her resignation. It will be one more day before the board acts on that resignation.
At that point, applications will be sought from community members interested in filling the unexpired term.
Superintendent C. J. Huff and reportedly, at least two board members already know who they want to step in for Sticklen- former Board President Jeff Flowers.
Flowers finished fourth in a seven-candidate race in April, with the top three- Debbie Fort, Lynda Banwart, and incumbent Randy Steele, winning the seats.
Flowers has not announced any intent to seek the seat, but Huff is hoping for his return to make sure he maintains his grip on the board.
While there has been no open revolution against the superintendent, he has lost three board members- Flowers, Phil Willcoxon, who did not seek re-election, and Sticklen, and has one new board member, Debbie Fort, who has openly questioned district spending, something that had never happened since Huff took control of the district on July 1, 2008.
Administration sources tell the Turner Report that Huff also has major concerns about two other board members, Banwart and Jim Kimbrough, and feels he needs to have Flowers back to maintain total control.
The people of Joplin voted him out. If they put him back on the board over the objection of the people then the State needs to take over the schools and disband the board and fire Huff.

ReplyDeletePlease..oh..please..someone tell me that Fort Kimbrough and Banwart together with a new addition to the party could actually be the beginning of a better time.
ReplyDeleteI sure hope Fort and Kimbrough actually stand up to all this garbage. Banwart was backed by that group so it's hard to believe she will.
ReplyDeleteIf my kid wasn't a senior, we'd be gone.
Only thing worse than that tornado is Huff & Co.
Of course he wants Flowers back. Then he can go back to misappropriating funds and terrorizing the staff without being hassled. If he gets Flowers back we will come after them with all we've legally got, starting with recall elections and law suits. Maybe if Banwart can show up for the meeting she might want to follow through with her fresh perspective campaign and go against the business as usual. What a disappointing turn of events.
