In an interview with KZRG, Joplin R-8 Superintendent C. J. Huff says the new Joplin High School did not fail the city inspection Friday...because it never expected to pass in the first place:
Superintendent Dr. CJ Huff tells News Talk KZRG while an inspection walkthrough did happen last Friday, reports of the building failing that inspection are untrue.
"No. We didn't even expect to get the temporary Certificate of Occupancy on Friday. We figured, best case scenario, we'd wrap up any issues discovered on Friday over the weekend. One of the challenges we had was to get an elevator inspection, which we can't even get until Tuesday when the State Fire Marshal gets here. The elevator did pass the Joplin Fire Marshal's inspection Sunday."
Huff says volunteers should be able to start moving in supplies by Wednesday.
We "Might as well" move everything in today and start school since Guff didn't expect to pass inspection so he probably doesn't expect students to meet state standards, especially since we are atill dealing with tornado kids.
ReplyDelete"Mission accomplished!"
ReplyDeleteWhy did he schedule the inspection if he didn't expect the building to pass? The City Inspector will have to come back to make sure everything has been completed before issuing even a temporary occupancy certificate.
ReplyDeleteHe must be getting his information from that top-notch building director, Mike Johnson.
Seems like it would be the contractors pulling the permits and performing the work that would schedule the inspections. I think that is how it's done most places. Guess not when it's Joplin and R-8.
ReplyDeleteGreat attitude, I'll now train my joplin students to follow in the footsteps of these first class open and honest administrators, " I didn't fail the test, since I never expected to pass the test"
ReplyDeleteThis can bring a new level of success to all! I salute you!
Just wait until MAP scores are released. "We didn't expect to be proficient so our scores are actually great!"
ReplyDeleteIf you didn't expect to pass, why would you schedule volunteers?
