Having experienced a few days in the new Joplin High School, teachers today urged Superintendent C. J. Huff to consider moving back the start of school to Tuesday, September 2.
Unsafe conditions have been cited, coupled with a situation in which one of the teachers was stuck between floors on an elevator.
Though he said during Tuesday night's board meeting that he always knew that it would "come down to the wire," Huff only had High School Principal Kerry Sachetta and Executive Director of High School Instruction Jason Cravens begin working on a Plan B Monday morning.
Huff reportedly will announce his decision tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon.
If that happens, the Board of Education may adopt a schedule presented by Sachetta and Cravens at Tuesday night's board meeting which would start the schedule September 2, the day after Labor Day, and add full days October 22, the day after parent-teacher conferences, which is scheduled as an open date, and then Monday, December 22, and Tuesday, December 23, with the latter day being a half day for students.
Teachers would also be required to attend two days of professional development next week, likely on Wednesday and Thursday.
Whatever decision is made, school will start for Joplin elementary and middle school students next Monday.
Teacher Stuck in elevator?
ReplyDeleteYeah I think they might need at least another week... Looks very bleak around there.
And Who decided to put blue bleachers in the gym?
Did they change the school colors?
Blue and yellow bleachers, not exactly Joplin school colors!

ReplyDeleteGuess you haven't heard about that coming change either. Out with the old and in with the new. New uniforms intended to be necessary so that sponsors (yet to be contracted) may be accommodated?
So open house hasn't changed or it has?
