Nicastro: Bad weather, test changes caused statewide drop in MAP scores

In her monthly report, Commission of Education Chris Nicastro lists a number of reasons for the statewide decrease in MAP (Missouri Assessment Program) scores.

She blames "inclement weather," which kept kids out of class, changes in the tests, and the upcoming switch to Common Core, which she refers to as "more rigorous" standards. Meetings will be held before long to revise Missouri's standards, but until those changes take place, Nicastro has said, the state will continue to use "Missouri Standards." Missouri Standards are also known as Common Core Standards.

During the rest of her message, Nicastro talks about the Kansas City Public Schools receiving provisional accreditation and ACT scores.
