Globe article: Student says six-and-a-half-mile ribbon was his idea

C. J. Huff's chief public relations outlet, the Joplin Globe, posted a story moments ago in which credit for the six-and-a-half-mile ribbon that will be cut during tomorrow's Joplin High School dedication ceremony is given to Joplin High School student Alan Hass:

The article begins like this:

When Joplin High School senior Alan Hass heard from one of his teachers that the new school's dedication ceremony would be a good time to try to break a world record, he took his teacher up on that challenge.

According to the article, Hess researched and found the ribbon record.

Hess' idea took hold and Joplin students, staff, and administrators quickly got on board.

Later in the article:

Hass said he solicited bids for the ribbon himself, receiving seven bids and awarding the purchase to the top bidder. The ribbon has been purchased through sponsorships; district officials have said that neither the school district nor Bright Futures Joplin paid for it.

More lies

It was all Alan's doing. The school and administration did nothing but back him up and hive him a pat on the back.

I was in the class, it was in fact his idea. He came up with it in 7th hour last year at the 11/12 campus. Now all of you can thank him for being an outstanding senior

Amazing that two people have already come on here to say that the young man came up with the idea all on his own after his name had never been mentioned until it was in the Globe article.

Gee, it makes you wonder why it took so long to reveal "the truth." Was CJ planning on taking the credit if this idea would have been embraced by the community?

I was just about to say the same thing. This has been going on for months, while we have listened to C. J. Huff say "some students" came up with the idea or "a student group," then Anne Sharp says it was a Bright Futures idea. C. J. later said students did the research on it, but did not say whose idea it was and later he told some teachers it was a student idea and others it was his idea. I doubt if we will ever know the truth.

Don't believe your eyes.
Believe my lies.

I see young Mr. Hass receiving some R8 scholarship money this spring.

I can easily believe that a student came up with the idea. The lie then, is Huff's, who stood in front of a building full of teachers and staff and claimed the ribbon was all his idea because he is very competitive and wanted to break a record.

The pity is that the Board never put a stop to the idea, no matter where it originated. You cannot go to the public and whine and cry about how broke you are, then go begging for $15,000 for a one-day event.

Dear Randy:

As long as your readers continue to resort to logic and evidence, we will never realize the glory of CJ's grand vision.

Please stop encouraging public discourse, and allow our people to follow this magnificent educator, unabated by reality and petty concerns such as money.

Thank you.

I am a JHS senior. You know this is true because I just said so, Randy, you and your readers are a bunch of big meanies. Every student, teacher, school employee, parent, and taxpayer love Dr. Huff with all of our hearts. Did I mention that I really, and truly am a student. Well I am. No, really.
