Melanie Huonker leaves KSN for Tucson

Right on the heels of her former KSN Living Well co-anchor departure, Melanie Huonker announced this week she is leaving for the Tuscon NBC affiliate where she will be the morning traffic reporter.

Carla Pesono take over Bandy's role, joining 6 and 10 p.m. anchors Phillip Mitchell and Jessica Schaer.

Huonker has been at KSN since May 2012, replacing original Living Well host Toni Valliere.

What's up w/ KSN being unable to keep anyone and the revolving door of young people? Trying to save money by only hiring folks right out of college? Sometimes it feels like a college broadcast. When Gary Bandy was there it was like he was their teacher, but now they don't even have that.

Nexstar, the company that owns KSN, has over 100 affiliates that they own. Kids take any job they can get within the company, knowing they can quick move to a larger market within the same company. That's the reason for the high turnover. It's not like someone gets out of school and says "I think I want to plant roots in good ol Joplin Mo"... most of these kids want to be in a top 20 Market. No one's fault, just the nature of the beast.

I agree about the revolving door comment, I've honestly lost track at this point! It would be nice to have a steady cast that you can watch regularly and get to know on some level. Also just like to say thanks to Randy for having posts like this, seems to be a neutral ground for people to come and comment.

Well, an expanded cultural scene with lots of classic rock concerts and offoffoff Broadway shows ought to help improve this sad situation.

Better yet, a convention center, NBA or NFL team, and improved oceanfront housing would git it dun.

I agree with the 2:45 comment about the young people - but I should have clarified I was also curious about why most of the long-term people jumped ship within a short time frame? E.g. Toni Valliere, Tiffany Alaniz, etc.? Now with Gary Bandy it's a LOT in just a couple/few years, when I think there would be some interest in having a steady and familiar group. It's not just about young people wanting to move to a larger market, it's seems there's not much incentive to stay or effort to retain, either. I feel no loyalty as a viewer.
