Winter weather advisory issued for Joplin area

URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SPRINGFIELD MO
312 PM CST SAT NOV 15 2014

...ACCUMULATING SNOW ON SUNDAY...

.A STRONG STORM SYSTEM AND ASSOCIATED COLD FRONT WILL MOVE INTO THE
REGION FROM THE NORTHWEST SUNDAY MORNING.  AN AREA OF SNOW WILL THEN
FORM ALONG AND BEHIND THIS FRONT AND MOVE ACROSS MOST OF
SOUTHEASTERN KANSAS AND THE MISSOURI OZARKS.  WHILE TEMPERATURES
WILL INITIALLY WARM ABOVE FREEZING SUNDAY MORNING...THEY SHOULD
QUICKLY FALL BACK BELOW FREEZING AS PRECIPITATION BEGINS...ALLOWING
SNOW TO ACCUMULATE.

CURRENT INDICATIONS ARE FOR A BROAD ONE TO TWO INCHES OF SNOW ACROSS
AREAS SOUTH OF U.S. 54...WITH SOME ENHANCED ACCUMULATIONS ACROSS THE
U.S. 60 AND I-44 CORRIDORS...WHERE UP TO THREE INCHES OF SNOW MAY
FALL.  THERE WILL BE A VERY SHARP CUTOFF TO THE NORTHERN EDGE OF THE
SNOW...AND CURRENT INDICATIONS ARE THAT THE U.S. 54 CORRIDOR AND
POINTS NORTH WILL ONLY SEE UP TO AN INCH OF ACCUMULATION.
HOWEVER...ANY SHIFT NORTH OR SOUTH IN THE TRACK OF THIS SYSTEM OVER
THE NEXT 24 HOURS WILL HAVE A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON SNOWFALL
AMOUNTS.

SNOW SHOULD END FROM WEST TO EAST SUNDAY EVENING...WITH VERY COLD
AIR BUILDING INTO THE AREA FOR THE BEGINNING OF THE WORKWEEK.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SPRINGFIELD HAS ISSUED A WINTER
WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 9 AM SUNDAY
TO MIDNIGHT CST SUNDAY NIGHT.

* TIMING AND AREAS AFFECTED...SOUTHEASTERN KANSAS AND THE MISSOURI
  OZARKS SOUTH OF U.S. 54 FROM SUNDAY MORNING THROUGH LATE SUNDAY
  EVENING.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...ONE TO TWO INCHES OF SNOW...WITH SOME
  ENHANCED SNOW ACCUMULATIONS UP TO THREE INCHES ACROSS THE I-44 AND
  U.S. 60 CORRIDORS.

* WINDS AND VISIBILITY...VISIBILITY MAY BE REDUCED TO LESS THAN A
  MILE IN AREAS OF MODERATE OR HEAVY SNOW.

* IMPACTS...SNOW WILL RESULT IN DIFFICULT AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS
  DRIVING CONDITIONS AS SLICK SPOTS DEVELOP ON AREA ROADS.
  VISIBILITY WILL ALSO BE REDUCED AT TIMES IN AREAS OF MODERATE TO
  HEAVY SNOW.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW
WILL CAUSE PRIMARILY TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR SNOW
COVERED ROADS AND LIMITED VISIBILITIES...AND USE CAUTION WHILE
DRIVING.
