Joplin City Councilwoman elected to national post

(From the City of Joplin)

Joplin Council member Melodee Colbert-Kean was recently elected first vice president of the National League of Cities at the annual Congress of Cities and Exposition. She served as second vice-president last year, marking the first time a Missouri city official was elected to a top leadership position with NLC in more than 50 years.

All NLC officers are selected by a 15-member nominating committee and are elected by NLC’s membership.

A lifelong Joplin resident, Colbert-Kean is president of Prayerful Portions, LLC, a small business consulting firm, and is a Missouri Licensed Realtor. Colbert-Kean has been on the Joplin City Council since 2006, serving as Mayor from April 2012 to April 2014 and has been an active board member with NLC since 2008. She also serves on the MML Economic Development & Human Resources Board and is a Governors Appointee to the Missouri Women’s Council.

In response to this election, Colbert-Kean said, “ I'm honored to represent my great city of Joplin, and to serve over 19,000 cities and towns, as an advocacy champion for challenges and concerns cities face every day. I look forward to continue highlighting Joplin’s amazing rebuilding efforts and the progress made in redesigning the area affected by the disaster in 2011."

The Missouri Municipal League provides a united voice for municipalities across Missouri. Founded in 1934, MML now serves more than 675 municipalities with training, resources and legislative advocacy for local government success. Learn more at www.mocities.com.

Cowardice and jealousy...that's exactly why the previous commenters are anonymous. Obviously you don't know this woman very well. Otherwise you wouldn't be saying such idiotic things. Instead of sitting the shadows and being judgmental against people she doesn't know, she's out there trying to make a difference. What are you doing? What have you done? Congratulations, Melodee. You are blessed.
