Shawnee Mission School District considers dropping Top 10 for seniors

Carthage native and former East Newton Superintendent Jim Hinson, now the superintendent at Shawnee Mission, is making waves again by pushing to remove the top 10 designation for members of the senior class to prevent hurting the feelings of those who "came so close."

What do you think?

This is a huge reason why our public schools are in the shape they are in. The intelligent kids, who work their butts off to make the grade, have their classrooms inundated with mongoloids and morons. Effectively slowing classroom progress to a crawl. Then they can't even receive an accolade for their efforts, without making the morons and mongoloids feel bad! What has happened to "aspiring to be the best", or "with success comes reward"? Instead, now we have moron award ceremonies, where a standing ovation is expected for a mongoloid who brought his/her grade average up from an F to a D! WOW, what a future we should look forward to.

Anonymous at 9:43 AM: More like "No Child Gets Ahead".

When I graduated from R-VIII in the late '70s, it was in part a miracle I got into a top university, and definitely in part due to things I did outside of class.

Part of the wussification of America. Everyone is a winner and no losers. Life doesn't work that way, it's time we recognize and teach that to our kids. If those kids went to Rockhurst they would in class rooms by rankings. I'm sure there is a good reason, for this and it has to do with part of an anti-feel bad campaign that their compliance department is concerned about. I disappointed would you be if you were #3 and got lumped in with #10. Still a great accomplishment yet not recognized for your achievement and hard work.
