Cedarcreek Republican: This legislative session will be one for the history books

(From Rep. Lyle Rowland, R-Cedarcreek)

Greetings from your State Capitol.

I hope each and everyone had a great Christmas and my wish is that the New Year brings the best to everyone.

The 98th General Assembly’s first session was convened on Wednesday, January 7th at noon. Representatives were sworn in and our new Speaker and Speaker Pro-Tem were officially elected and sworn into office.

Committee assignments should be announced next week or possibly the week after.

In his opening remarks, Speaker John Diehl stated that “In this legislature, let’s avoid repeating mistakes that we’ve seen play out at the federal level. Whether it’s over-regulation of the economy or the practice of living off borrowed money, these policies do not serve our country well and they won’t work any better in Missouri.

By standing together in support of the families and businesses of Missouri, we will rein in the ever-expanding government bureaucracy and foster the freedom of workers and innovators to do what they do best. Together, we will work to ensure the doors of opportunity are open to everyone who wants to, and is willing to, put in the hard work and sacrifice necessary to succeed.”

Speaker Pro-Tem Denny Hoskins echoed some of the same statements in his address. He stated in a quote from Henry Ford that, “Coming together in a beginning. Keeping together in progress. Working together is success.” Denny went on to say that, “it is clear the people of our state value our commitment to creating a fiscally responsible, balanced budget that makes the best possible use of your taxpayer dollars.”

It is my belief, as one Representative, that the 98th General Assembly will be one for the history books. I have a very good feeling that we will indeed accomplish great things that will improve the lives of all Missourians.

As I start my third term as your State Representative, I still want to say that it is a privilege to represent you in State Government.
