City Council tabs American Ramp to build new Joplin skate park

Joplin City Council selected American Ramp from five bidders to build a new skating facility at Ewert Park.

From Bryan McLoone's report for KODE News:

The council also voted to select a construction group to build the new city skate park at Ewert Park. American Ramp Co. from Joplin was selected out of five proposals received by the city. Before construction starts, the city will hold three future public input sessions to allow the skating community to voice their ideas for what they would like to see at the park.

"I think that's going to appeal to a lot of kids. And I'm excited to be able to add that to our park system here in Joplin," said Mike Seibert, Joplin Mayor.

Not many kids use the ramps at Shifferdecker park and even less will use them at Ewert. There are to many old dudes hanging around Ewert Park drinking booze all summer long.

Kids would rather skate on the streets, parking lots, or businesses. What a waste of money.

City going against Storm water park and recreation tax passage promise. They promised pods in each of the community parks for access with out having to be driven to parks. Skaters are 13-16 no license so mom and dad will transport..city should revisit the one large $350,000 park and do 5 $80,000 pods in each of the parks. Residents would be better served..more activities...more services...and the drunks comment is very correct

So how does American Ramp have the political clout to get a no bid and no dollar limit contract? What political chips do they hold over the council or the city planning dept?
These are the same people who "ramped up" for the kids center by JQ Hammons Center until it failed financially.

It is time for a recall of City Council. This kind of waste is bad enough; it is worse that none but one has the courage to vote against an open ended expenditure for this kind of frivolous project.
Yet they are plenty ready to vote to increase our wastewater fees because they "need the money".
    RECALL THEM ALL.

the Globe pretty much put a muzzle on 2 of the councilmen by all the bad press they gave them and the other 2 that voted against anything did not get reelected everything will just be rubber stamped from now on.
