From all appearances, Joplin R-8 Board of Education member Shawn McGrew has taken a paid position with Bright Futures USA.
The organization's website shows McGrew as one of the speakers for the upcoming Bright Futures USA Community Engagement Conference, scheduled for Monday, February 23, and Tuesday, February 24, at Missouri Southern State University.
McGrew is advertised as "Training and Operations Manager Bright Futures USA."
He is no longer listed as one of the board members for Bright Futures Joplin.
Bright Futures Joplin and Bright Futures USA are allegedly completely separate organizations and Shawn McGrew will only be on the Board of Education for two more months, but considering the amount of control R-8 Superintendent C. J. Huff appears to have over both Bright Futures organizations and the amount of time Huff has spent criss-crossing the country promoting Bright Futures USA, this smacks of conflict of interest to say the least.
Anyone surprised by this?
ReplyDeleteI mean we all knew this was gonna happen
Did this job come before or after the vote to extend CJ's contract, and was the job contingent upon that vote? Enquiring minds want to know. It looks pretty bad, for sure.
ReplyDeleteSo, cronyism continues unabated in Joplin, despite the audit. Maybe they better come back for more than campaigning purposes.
ReplyDeleteHow many people are paid by Bright Futures or Bright Futures USA now? It would be interesting to see what percent of their donations actually make it to the kids.
ReplyDeleteShame on you, Randy Turner. CJ Huff is not the head of Bright Futures USA. That is Kim Vann. The two Bright Futures are totally separate, therefore there is no conflict of interest. Stop trying to stir up trouble where there is none.

ReplyDeleteWe will hope you are being funny. it isn't really. But nice try. There is no difference between Kim Vann and CJ Huff. They are one mind. A half-wit apiece.

ReplyDeleteGood point ! I Wonder ... Who else on school board is getting their bellies rubbed?
just guessing this was one job where a drug test wouldn't get in the way
ReplyDelete@7:37...... he mentioned that in the article! Apparently you didn't read it and went straight to Randy bashing! He was sharing information since nobody else will!
ReplyDelete7:37-
ReplyDeleteHuff is on the board of directors of Bright Futures USA. As are Mike Woolston and Nancy Good, just to name a few familiar people. It's a real tight group. And Good was McGrew's campaign manager. They are also part of CART and JPAC. So many filthy hands are washing each other there's no way they will ever look clean again.
Who would pay to listen to these people speak? What a boring bunch. Are they having break-out sessions about how to rip off the public while dragging down academics?
ReplyDeleteThey're qualified for that much anyways.
Look at the date! Isn't that when the auditor comes back? This will look real good for the five dimwits willing to pay to hear CJ's speech for the billionth time. Cue tears...
ReplyDelete7:48---
ReplyDeleteThere must be five of them getting something rubbed because they didn't extend that idiot's contract based on the quality of his work or the success of his district. There has to be something else that would get them to give him more money if he leaves when they were about to get the audit report. Another way to rip us all off to their benefit somehow.
Nancy Good has more money than everyone on the board combined she is calling the shots guaranteed.
ReplyDeleteAll those boards are filled by people who do favors for each other and hide each other's secrets and on and on it goes. Typical small town crap. Nothing original or new in Joplin, just low class.
ReplyDeleteMy question; In a community very much against Government spending, how much of Tax money goes to bright Futures?
ReplyDeleteWhat say we have Bright Futures audited?? Show of hands...
