Jurors say life in prison for murderer of MSSU coach

The jury recommended life in prison with parole for Jeffrey Bruner after convicting him on first degree murder and armed criminal action charges in connection with the November 1, 2013, shooting death of Missouri Southern State University offensive line coach Derek Moore in front of the Northstar 14 Theater.

Jurors did not buy the idea being pushed by the defense that Bruner was out of his mind because his estranged wife, who was on a date with Moore at the theater, had had numerous affairs during their marriage and had driven him into killing Moore.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 18.

What I don’t understand is why MSSU hasn’t been publically called to account in this mess. They should have had rules in place like other universities do restricting personal relationships between university employees. Or did they have them and the wife/coach decide to violate them? She also admitted to sleeping with a university police dispatcher. When is the school holding these people accountable for this?

6:54, They will start only after they stop relationships between professors and current students. Which I think, is much more of an ethical problem. Not so much professors with their own students, but any relationship between a professor and ANY student is a big no-no. Which part of "don't sh!t where you eat", do these people not understand.

    Really 6:54?
How is the school responsible for the shooting of anyone?
Employees of companies, schools, etc. may have relationships with no problems as long as one is not in a direct supervisory role of the other. There are plenty of employees at the University whom are married to other employees.
The school should hold accountable the employee for sleeping with someone (even if they were an employee)? What world do you live in?

There is a rule in place, it is called "Murder in the First Degree", and "Armed Criminal Action".
Don't you get it? Let's blame everyone else but the guy who murdered a man in cold blood with malice of fore-thought.

As I see it, the only problem is, he shot the wrong person.

Oh come on, all of us have had a relationship with a slut or a cheat in our past. Most of us simply file for divorce and move on. Only the dumb ones do something stupid like killing somebody.

9:28, what world do YOU live in? Schools and companies routinely put rules in place to prevent exactly this kind of thing from happening (not to mention harassment lawsuits). You must not have a job in the real world.

I have a job in the real world. I operate a company with many employees, and yes, some of them are married to each other, some of them date and even socialize with each other. I can't and won't tell them how to live their lives outside of my workplace. I can only have them work within the rules of my business. I can't tell them with whom to fraternize, either. Just as I can't tell them which church to attend, or what foods they can or can't eat.

The convicted man SHOT and KILLED another man. I believe that fact is more important to this case, then if the University has a no fraternization policy in effect.

Actually you can tell your employees what they can or can’t do regarding fraternization in the workplace. Just a question of how much liability you want to assume if you’re a large company or government agency and don’t put rules in place. I think the poster at 11:50 is talking about unmarried folks on the job doing things with each other.

While the coach certainly didn't deserve to die, let us not forget that he got involved with a married woman, had the picture taken of them together at the movie theater, posted it on Facebook, and didn't back away when confronted by the angry husband. He could have simply backed away while saying the issue was between the husband and the wife and that he was sorry for his involvement.
