Lane Roberts' name will remain on Joplin R-8 ballot

The announcement that Gov. Jay Nixon has appointed former Joplin Police Chief Lane Roberts as the next Director of Public Safety cames far too late to have Roberts' name removed from the ballot for Joplin R-8 Board of Education, where he, Board President Anne Sharp, and Jeff Koch are the three candidates for two three-year positions.

Jasper County Clerk Marilyn Baugh told the Turner Report this afternoon that the ballots have been printed and have already arrived.

Anyone who wishes to run as a write-in candidate for that position or for the one-year position, which also has three candidates, Melinda Campbell, Nancy Good, and Jennifer Martucci competing, has until 5 p.m. Friday, March 27, to file at the Jasper County Clerk's office.

We need to vote for Roberts anyway. This is the only way to get Anne off the board. The new board will select the replacement and should consider any write in candidates.

I agree. A write-in candidate will split the vote and assure that Anne stays in. We must have Koch and Roberts, and then we encourage a really good candidate to apply afterward. Be thinking of someone good and vote for Roberts and Koch and Martucci in the meantime.

    We have a plan.

6:11 You've got a plan but how are you going to get the word out? The Joplin Globe and local tv will lead voters to believe that Roberts has dropped out so there is no other choice than to vote for Queen Ann.
